Michael Yelovich, the General Manager at South Side Country Club in Decatur, was born in Mount Union, Pennsylvania, and graduated from the University of Maryland with a Business Degree. Yelovich relocated to the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area to work as a Golf Professional, which would become his life's career.
Yelovich moved to the Chicago area and Olympia Field Golf Club as Assistant Golf Professional. While in Chicago he met and married his wife, Sandra. Michael and Sandra relocated to the Decatur, Illinois area, where Michael served as the Golf Professional at South Side Country Club for 31 years. For eight years during his time as South Side, he served as both Golf Professional and General Manager.
Michael and Sandra have been married for 33 years, and have lived and raised their three children, Matthew, Michael, and Mark, in Decatur. Michael and his wife have been a driving force in the efforts to educate the community about the organization, SADD, Students Against Destructive Decisions. Students Against Destructive Decisions is an organization whose aim is to educate students about the risks of making destructive decisions, that could lead to life altering accidents.
The Communication and Leadership Award is presented by the district to a carefully selected person in the community who is an outstanding communicator and leader.
